about

After letting the Powerless Pack vote between a few options for the next single release, the clear winner was I’ve Walked Around. After months of pushing this single to its limits and trying a million different ideas, I’m proud to present Ronnie Strauss on the drums, and Camille as the second vocalist—collaboration made this track the best it can be.

It’s a personal exegesis on the culturally critical subject of good vs bad, light vs dark. This song seeks to tie the two together like lovers, instead of pitting the two against each other in battle. Of course, there are terrible choices and states of being (ie. murder, rape, hatred, etc) that are rightfully considered “bad” because they inflict unnecessary pain and suffering on the world and the self—this isn’t really the “bad” or “dark” being discussed here.

In my own experience, I and many other around me, took it too far in defining what’s good and what’s bad. For example, “if I’m not happy right now, well then that’s bad! Because happy is good, and sad is bad.” This kind of “black and white thinking” has not brought be peace; instead it creates more of a rollercoaster out of everyday life—life that is usually entirely beyond my conscious control. It was a huge paradigm-shift when I finally conceived of the idea that maybe my whole worldview doesn’t need to always be filtered through “good and bad”—maybe it’s like how some days the weather is sunny, and other days the weather is stormy. It’s ME who adds the dramatic story to what the weather means…

This song is an invitation to reach out to trustworthy humans who can help you embrace and accept life on life’s terms, instead of creating the rollercoaster drama of rejecting life when it doesn’t fit your expectations. The ups and the downs are equally beautiful, necessary, and normal. Embracing what is brings serenity.

lyrics

I've walked around in the night
I ran with the wolves cousin
Can't sleep so I sit in the dark
There's nowhere to go but here
Listen here, I've walked around in the nights
I ran with the wolves again
Can't sleep so I sit here in the dark
Still... I could take a pill to sleep
Some days rain falls alone in my heart
Rough start to my day okay
Thirsting for some purpose in the void
And I'm not alone in this with you

I've walked around in the light
I've walked up through mountains
So steep, took my breath to the wind
I ran through clouds, cousin
Rain stole the wind from my knife
And I ran with the wolves again
Can't sleep so I wait here in the dark
There's nowhere to go but here
Some days rain falls alone in my heart
Rough start to my day okay
Thirsting for some purpose in the void
And I'm not alone in this with you

Wind is rustling through flowers
And my window open
As far as it can go
I am sitting on the edge
Of summer and fall
I've gotta hold you right now

Oh rain falls alone in my heart
Oh rain falls alone in my heart
Oh rain falls alone in my heart
Oh rain falls alone in my heart
Oh rain falls alone in my heart
